Faith And Hope

This is an assortment of views of memorial art from Laurel Hill Cemetery located in NW Philadelphia. The grounds were one of the first public cemetery parks established in this country and at one time was its largest in terms of acreage. Though it fell into neglect in later years, it was revived and today stands as one of the premiere venues of the cemetery as public museum of history and art. I highly recommend taking a tour!

The bee in this statue is a symbol of renewal of life, much like the butterfly, which has a similar life cycle. Its associations with Spring are obvious.
